“Now I’m that Bitch was written after a conversation that I had with Salaam Remi at his studio. During the chat Salaam, who I just love, was asking me to tell me what I want people to know about me that they really do not know. After thinking for a bit, I told him that I am not as “innocent” as people think. I told him that a do have a quiet confidence and sassiness to me that most people are unaware of. Joking, Salaam said “oh like now I’m that bitch.” And I was like, “exactly!”

For me the word is not negative at all; it is a word that connotes being in control of yourself and your emotions. It is a word that means that you won’t tolerate being disrespected or settle for anything that is not excellent. My hope is that girls will embrace this word and allow it to be empowering…I sure have!
